The Warrior Path
A Competition Application of Filipino Boxing, Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai, Silat, and Submission Wrestling created under the guidance and mentorship of Guro Scott Petri.
Whereas some systems work on take downs for MMA, we focus on beat downs. We teach striking as such an overwhelming onslaught of violence that a potential submission at the end is a welcome relief to the pain.
The OG Warrior Path 1 Group meets at 5am at
Band of Brothers Martial Arts | 1712 Hamilton Rd. #B | Bloomington, IL 61704
First and foremost, a great debt of gratitude goes out to Guro Scott Petri. He has studied and is certified under some of the greatest teachers of Southeast Asian Martial Arts. His guidance has been absolutely essential to the creation of this system. Without his guidance and mentorship, this would not be possible.
Additional shout-outs:
1. Guro Sam Spence. He really helped with the ideas regarding dutch kickboxing and I truly appreciate his mentorship.
2. My oldest son, Zach. He got up at 4am each morning to test this system and refine it. The time spent with him was truly a joy and inspiration. Without his participation, this would not be possible.3. Austin Johnston. As a collegiate level wrestler, his dedication to helping me improve this program has been truly invaluable. His work ethic is unmatched and he helped to inspire some changes in this final draft.
The Normal West Boxing Club System is something I like to call the Warrior Path. The idea is to do this all the way through with a partner and persevere together. Do battle together. Do life together. Form a bond that will last beyond the 16 lessons and be the warriors that our families need us to be for them.
It is based on the idea that the best defense is an overwhelming offense, but not offense the way it is typically taught. We will use Filipino Boxing (Panantukan) as an offensive defense to defang the snake. Then, we will use our offensive combos to pick apart our opponent. The lessons in each unit start at the basic elements and then work up to the combo goal by the end of the unit. We want the combos to be so engrained in the muscle memory that when the brain is overwhelmed, the body will do the job it has been trained to do.
This system will help to train for potential ring situations. This is not meant as a street combat system, though it would be effective for empty hands combat situations.
Each level will be based on successful completion of the one before. Levels 1-2 are all striking-centric, meaning that it will be based all on Filipino Boxing and Muay Thai. Levels 3-5 really get deep into Submission Wrestling (we do some in level 2 as well). Whereas some systems work on take downs for MMA, we focus on beat downs. We teach striking as such an overwhelming onslaught of violence that a potential submission at the end is a welcome relief to the pain.
At the end of level 1, the student will earn the right to wear our shirt. At the end of level 2, the student will earn custom Normal West Boxing Club gloves. At the end of level 3, the student will test with Guro Scott Petri to earn Muay Thai shorts that are custom-made in Thailand. At the end of levels 4 and 5, the student will be tested and earn a star on the shorts.
