First and foremost, a great debt of gratitude goes out to Guro Scott Petri. He has studied and is certified under some of the greatest teachers of Southeast Asian Martial Arts. His guidance has been absolutely essential to the creation of this system. Without his guidance and mentorship, this would not be possible.
The Normal West Boxing Club System is something I like to call the Warrior Path. The idea is to do this all the way through with a partner and persevere together. Do battle together. Do life together. Form a bond that will last beyond the 12 lessons and be the warriors that our families need us to be for them. You will go through this program with a partner. You start with this person, do life with this person, and end the program with this person.
It is based on the idea that the best defense is an overwhelming offense. The lessons in each unit start at the basic elements and then work up to the combo goal by the end of the unit. We want the combos to be so engrained in the muscle memory that when the brain is overwhelmed, the body will do the job it has been trained to do.
This system will help to train for potential ring situations. This is not meant as a street combat system, though it would be effective for empty hands combat situations.
What follows is a level by level approach. Each level presented will have the requirements of the level followed by detailed lesson plans for the students to progress to the level test.
Level 1 starts with Panantukan defensive moves and transitions to offensive moves from Muay Thai and Panantukan. Kali flow starts off each practice to help students get into the flow of ordabis and hammer.
Level 2 starts with Panantukan and Dutch Kickboxing defensive moves and transitions to offensive moves with Muay Thai, Western Boxing, and Cambodian Kickboxing. There is more focus on offense, kick defense, and close fighting with elbows. The last few lessons incorporate sparring. Kali flow starts off each practice to help students get into the flow of elbows with hubud.
Level 3 uses Panantukan kick defensive moves and transitions to offensive moves with Cambodian Kickboxing, Dutch Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Western Boxing. Sparring is done in multiple lessons. Kali flow starts off each practice to help students get into the flow of ordabis and hammer.
