Westside MMA and Westside Jiu-Jitsu Club Information
First and foremost
Our club exists to set a standard of excellence for our student-athletes. Students who are interested must meet the following criteria:
1. Students must have no Fs. Students will submit to a grade check each week to remain in the club. Students who are earning a D grade will agree to attend tutoring that is offered by the school.
2. Students who have tardies will submit to a tardy check to ensure that there are no more tardies to class.
3. Students must complete a staff and assistant principal recommendation form to Mr. Rumps before being allowed to participate.
4. Students must sign a code of conduct regarding fighting/legal trouble/suspensions/referrals.
What will I learn?
Our club focuses on Filipino Boxing and Muay Thai for stand up training. Our classes are taught by certified instructors in a lesson by lesson format. Each lesson builds on the one before to build muscle memory and prepare you for any situation you may face. Our club is a member of USA Muay Thai, so students will have the option to do amateur fights if they so choose to do them. This part of the class happens from 7-8pm on Wednesdays. Some stand up submissions from Jiu-Jitsu are taught for those students who seek to do amateur MMA fights. We use The Warrior Path MMA Progression curriculum that was created by Jim Rumps under the supervision of Muay Thai expert Scott Petri.
We also train for a ground attack using Jiu-Jitsu and concepts taught by the professional instructors at Gracie Barra Twin Cities. Students will earn in a step by step approach that is the Gracie Barra curriculum. Additionally, students will have the option to take Jiu-Jitsu outside of our club times. Gracie Barra has a full schedule of Gi and NoGi Jiu-Jitsu classes.
